In a bold political move, Elon Musk has announced the formation of a new political party in the United States—the America Party—positioning it as a challenge to what he calls the nation’s entrenched “one-party system.” The announcement comes amid a highly publicized fallout with former ally and current U.S. President Donald Trump.
Once a major donor to Trump’s 2024 campaign, Musk has sharply criticized the president’s controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill,” calling it a “disgusting abomination” that would balloon the national debt. Taking to his platform X, Musk declared, “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Drawing inspiration from historical military strategist Epaminondas—credited with breaking Spartan dominance—Musk signaled a strategic effort to disrupt the current political establishment. While he has not confirmed a run for office, he hinted at participating in the 2026 midterm elections, stating he might contest "next year."
The launch of the America Party follows a poll Musk posted on X on U.S. Independence Day, asking users whether America needed a new political party. The poll drew over 1.2 million responses, with a two-to-one majority supporting the idea. Reinforcing his stance, Musk shared a meme of a two-headed snake with the caption “End the Uniparty.”
The rift between Musk and Trump deepened after reports emerged that Trump had threatened to revoke federal subsidies for Musk’s companies and even suggested deporting the SpaceX CEO. In response, Musk vowed to deploy his resources against lawmakers who back excessive federal spending—despite campaigning against it—particularly those who supported the $3.4 trillion measure. He pledged to “laser-focus” on unseating vulnerable incumbents and becoming a “deciding vote” in future legislative battles.
With the launch of the America Party, Musk is not just entering politics—he’s aiming to reshape it.
