FaceOff the Fact: Rift among Sumona and Kapil Sharma

Sumona Chakravarti has set the record straight regarding her absence from The Great Indian Kapil Show and the long-standing allegations of misogyny in The Kapil Sharma Show. In a candid interview, she dismissed any speculation about a fallout with Kapil Sharma and defended the show’s scripted nature.

Sumona clarified that there was "no breakup" between her and Kapil Sharma. She emphasized their decade-long successful professional collaboration across different networks, underscoring that her absence from the Netflix version was not due to any conflict.

After their last season on Sony TV ended in 2023, Kapil embarked on a US tour, and Sumona later learned about his Netflix deal. However, there was no direct conversation between them regarding her exclusion. She also acknowledged that while they share a great working relationship, they are not close friends outside of work. This effectively dismisses rumors of a fallout.

Sumona also spoke about the accusations of misogyny in The Kapil Sharma Show, defending the content as entirely scripted. She urged viewers to differentiate between fictional characters like Bittu and Manju and the real-life actors portraying them.

She explained that the interactions depicted in the show reflect certain societal dynamics but remain within the framework of scripted entertainment. Stressing the importance of “common sense,” Sumona encouraged audiences to separate reel life from reality.

Through her statements, Sumona reinforced that her absence from the new show was not due to any dispute and defended the comedy show as a work of fiction rather than a reflection of real-world biases.
