PM Modi Deepfake: Cow Qurbani Video Debunked

It seems there's been a deepfake video circulating online, falsely showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying, "the cow is the best animal for qurbani" (Islamic sacrificial slaughter). This manipulated content, which surfaced around June 2025, has been widely debunked by fact-checking organizations.

The viral video claimed to feature PM Modi making a highly controversial statement regarding cows, which are revered in Hinduism, and the Islamic practice of qurbani, typically performed during Eid al-Adha. However, the video is entirely inauthentic. The footage was digitally altered, with AI-generated audio superimposed onto an original speech given by the Prime Minister.

The Truth Behind the Manipulation

·       Manipulated Content: The video is a digitally altered version of an authentic speech delivered by PM Modi on June 7, 2024, during an NDA Parliamentary Party meeting. In his original address, Modi spoke about governance and national unity, with no mention of cows or qurbani.

·       AI-Generated Audio: The viral video features AI-generated audio overlaid onto real visuals, creating a convincing yet entirely fabricated narrative.

·       Fact-Check Confirmation: Platforms like FACEOFF and Newschecker have confirmed the video is a deepfake. Their investigations traced the visuals to Modi’s genuine speech and flagged the audio as artificially created.

This incident underscores the growing danger of AI-driven misinformation, particularly when it targets culturally sensitive topics. Citizens are urged to verify content before sharing and rely on credible sources to combat the spread of deepfakes.
