Ayushman Bharat provides free healthcare services to country’s lower income group

Government of India’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana also known as Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Scheme intends to provide free access to healthcare for 50 crore people in the country. Launched in 2018, this programme is a part of the government’s National Health Policy. That ministry later established the National Health Authority as an organization to administer the program. The program is a poverty alleviation programme as its users are people with low income in India.     

 

Inspite of COVID-19 Government of India has operationalized 75,532 Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWC). Government is also on track to functionalise 1.5 lakh HWCs by December 2022. Over 23.8 crore women have accessed care at these centres, which saw a footfall of over 44.24 crore.
