A recent data breach at the U.S. insurance company, Allianz Life, has compromised the personal information of 1.1 million customers. The breach, discovered in late July, originated from a hack on a Salesforce-hosted customer relationship database, which held sensitive data for 1.4 million customers and employees.
While Allianz Life has not confirmed the exact number of people affected, the stolen information reportedly includes names, gender, birth dates, email and home addresses, phone numbers, and Social Security numbers.
The hacking group ShinyHunters has been linked to the attack and is reportedly preparing a data leak site to pressure Allianz into paying a ransom. Allianz Life has informed regulators in Texas and Massachusetts and is providing two years of identity monitoring services to those affected. The company has stated that its investigation is ongoing and has not provided further comment.
This incident follows other major data breaches, including those at Microsoft and UnitedHealth Group, which suffered the largest healthcare breach in U.S. history, affecting 192.7 million people. The increasing scale and severity of these attacks highlight the growing cybersecurity risks facing global companies.
