Clarification Issued: No Plans to Discontinue ₹500 Notes, RBI Confirms

Recent rumors circulating on social media and messaging platforms have caused unnecessary concern by falsely claiming that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will stop supplying ₹500 notes to ATMs by March 2026. Some posts have even urged the public to "use their cash quickly," recalling anxieties from past currency changes.

However, official sources have now clarified that these claims are entirely baseless.

The RBI has not issued any such directive and there are no plans to discontinue or phase out ₹500 currency notes. The ₹500 note remains legal tender and continues to be in active circulation across the country.

Authorities have urged citizens not to believe or spread such unverified information and to rely only on official announcements from the Reserve Bank of India or other credible government channels for accurate financial news.
