Claude Code: Bridging the COBOL-to-AI Divide

The modernization of legacy systems, particularly those anchored in COBOL, has long been a "holy grail" for enterprise IT. Recent demonstrations of Claude Code—an agentic AI assistant capable of autonomous codebase navigation and modification—mark a significant shift in how organizations can approach this notoriously difficult task. By utilizing deep code context and agentic reasoning, Claude Code is moving beyond simple code translation to facilitate true system modernization.

Historically, COBOL modernization projects failed due to their sheer complexity and the "black box" nature of decades-old business logic.
