MacKenzie Scott Donates $7.1 Billion to Nonprofits in 2025

MacKenzie Scott, philanthropist and former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated an extraordinary $7.1 billion to nonprofit organizations in 2025, reinforcing her position as one of the most impactful charitable givers in the world. The latest round of donations spans hundreds of organizations working across education, healthcare, racial equity, gender rights, climate action, and poverty alleviation.

True to her distinctive approach, Scott made the contributions with no strings attached, allowing recipient organizations full autonomy in deciding how the funds are used. This trust-based philanthropy model stands in sharp contrast to traditional grant-making, which often involves lengthy applications, reporting requirements, and donor oversight. Scott has consistently argued that nonprofits understand their communities best and should not be constrained by donor-imposed conditions.

Since signing the Giving Pledge in 2019, Scott has now donated well over $19 billion, distributing wealth at a pace rarely seen among ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Her giving strategy prioritizes organizations led by women, people of color, and leaders from underserved communities, aiming to address systemic inequities rather than short-term relief alone.

In 2025, the scale and speed of her donations have drawn renewed attention to debates around wealth redistribution, accountability in philanthropy, and the social responsibility of billionaires. Supporters praise Scott for setting a new benchmark in effective giving, while critics question the long-term sustainability and governance oversight of unrestricted donations.

Nevertheless, MacKenzie Scott’s philanthropy continues to reshape how large-scale charitable giving is perceived—placing trust, urgency, and equity at the center of global social impact.
