Meta Plans Smartwatch Debut in 2026

Meta Platforms is set to expand its hardware ambitions with plans to launch its first smartwatch in 2026, signaling a deeper push into the wearable technology market. The move represents a strategic step beyond social media and virtual reality, positioning Meta within the broader connected-device ecosystem.

The anticipated smartwatch aligns with Meta’s long-term vision of advancing the metaverse and strengthening its footprint in augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), and consumer hardware. Building on the success of its Ray-Ban smart glasses and Quest VR headsets, the company aims to embed its technology more seamlessly into users’ daily lives.

The device is expected to integrate closely with Meta’s AI-driven services, potentially offering features such as voice assistance, messaging, health tracking, and compatibility with AR interfaces. Entering a market currently dominated by Apple, Samsung, and Google, Meta’s smartwatch would compete in the premium wearable segment.

The initiative reflects CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s strategy to lessen reliance on rival mobile platforms while developing a vertically integrated ecosystem that combines AI, software, and proprietary hardware. If executed successfully, the smartwatch could enhance Meta’s standing in the global wearables space and advance its vision of a unified digital and immersive experience.
