Over 750 Million Indians Need Vision Correction, Says Lenskart CEO

More than 750 million people in India require vision correction, making eye health one of the country’s most overlooked public-health challenges, according to Lenskart CEO Peyush Bansal. Speaking about the growing demand for affordable eyewear, he noted that poor eyesight remains widespread across age groups, yet access to timely diagnosis and corrective solutions is still limited.

Bansal highlighted that a large percentage of Indians either do not realise they need vision correction or delay seeking help due to cost, lack of awareness, or limited availability of optometry services in rural areas. This leads to preventable vision problems that affect productivity, education, and overall quality of life.

The eyewear market is expanding rapidly as more consumers prioritise eye health and seek stylish, affordable solutions. Lenskart has been scaling both online and offline operations to meet rising demand, with investments in technology, AI-driven eye tests, and a growing network of stores.

Bansal emphasised that early detection and regular eye check-ups are essential. With India’s digital workforce and screen-time exposure increasing sharply, he believes the country is entering a critical phase where vision care must become a national priority.

The CEO said Lenskart aims to bridge gaps in accessibility and affordability, and ensure that millions receive timely and accurate vision correction.
